Composition of urinary stones in children: clinical and metabolic determinants in a French tertiary care center

As the epidemiology of urolithiasis is constantly evolving, analyzing composition stones crucial to better understand determinants lithogenesis. The aim this study was describe pediatric patients in a tertiary center. Clinical and metabolic data from all with at least one stone that analyzed by Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) Hospices Civils de Lyon between 2013 2017 were retrospectively collected. A total 111 (sex ratio 1.4:1) included; their median ([IQR]) age 7.5 (3.1–10.5) years. main component calcium oxalate (weddellite for 34 (31%) stones, whewellite 23 (21%)), phosphate (carbapatite 32 (29%), brushite 6 (5%), amorphous 3 (3%)), struvite 5 cystine 4 (4%), uric acid 2 (2%), ammonium urate (2%). 20 (18%) pure 24 (22%) infectious. Carbapatite most frequent < years > old. Metabolic abnormalities (most frequently hypercalciuria) found 50% tested 54% infectious stones. Congenital anomalies kidney and/or urinary tract (CAKUT) or neurogenic bladder present 9/24 (38%) 12/16 (76%) Conclusion: This confirms are among patients, which could reflect nutritional habits predisposed patients. In contrast, less occur mostly association anatomic favoring factors.
